What is happening

Your situation

A previous project equipped you with a platform, an observatory, a database. The funding stopped, the provider left, nobody updates it, and the link is now dead or out of date. Your teams can read a map but not produce one. You start again from scratch with every programme.

What you risk

  • The graveyard of observatories is documented: the Africa Regional Data Cube closed after two and a half years; Cameroon's land observatory, created in January 2019, has no website of its own; several regional portals are no longer maintained.
  • In Europe, no national open data portal generates revenue and 96% of member states have adopted zero marginal cost: the observatory self-funded by selling data does not exist.
  • What kills an observatory is almost never the technology. It is the absence of maintenance, updating and institutional ownership after the funding ends.

Our answer

What we do

We build the system, then we train your teams to run it, then we stay for maintenance as long as you want us to. Geoportal or thematic observatory, sovereign hosting, certified training grounded in your own data rather than textbook cases, level 2 and 3 technical support, and contractual application maintenance. The explicit objective is that you can do without us for everyday use.

In the Central African context

Satellite data is now free: Digital Earth Africa makes over five petabytes of analysed observations available for the continent. We will therefore never sell you data. What has a cost, and value, is the system that turns it into a decision and the human arrangement that keeps it alive after we leave.
