What is happening

Your situation

You export cocoa, coffee, rubber, timber or palm oil to the European Union. Your buyer now requires a due diligence statement: geolocated proof that your plots were not deforested after 31 December 2020. Without it, the container does not leave — this is not a fine, it is a market closing.

What you risk

  • Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 applies to medium and large operators from 30 December 2026, and to micro and small operators from 30 June 2027.
  • Seven commodities are covered: cocoa, coffee, timber, palm oil, rubber, soy and cattle — and their derived products.
  • The core obligation is the geolocation of production plots, with a statement filed in the Union information system and a reference number required at customs.
  • The real risk for a Central African exporter is not the fine — you are not the operator placing goods on the European market. It is the importer refusing the consignment.

Our answer

What we do

We produce the proof, then we audit it. First, a full polygon survey of your plots by field teams equipped with GNSS receivers — not a single GPS point in the middle of the field, the actual plot boundary. Then the topological check that removes overlaps and data-entry errors, because a flawed database is rejected at filing. Finally the deforestation-free audit, cross-checking your polygons against satellite archives since 2020, and formatting to the European system's requirements.

In the Central African context

In Cameroon, most cocoa has already been georeferenced by the SAFE programme (European Union and BMZ, implemented by GIZ with ONCC and CICC): over 90% of cocoa basins according to GIZ in July 2025. We will therefore not sell you mass polygon mapping you no longer need. What remains open, and what we work on: uncovered areas, commodities other than cocoa, the other Congo Basin countries, the annual update of existing databases, and independent quality control of data collected by third parties — a need created by the very existence of GeoShare.

The decisive lever

The implementing circular of Cameroon's 2025 Finance Act, signed on 31 December 2024, grants a 20% reduction on FOB value for exports of certified deforestation-free cocoa, rubber and logs. Compliance is not only a cost: it opens a quantifiable tax advantage on your volumes.
